If you’re planning a trip to Granada, there’s one thing you should know from the very beginning: Alhambra tickets are not something you want to leave until the last minute.
As a local guide in Granada, I see the same situation over and over again. Travelers contact me excited to book a guided tour, and when we check availability, they realize there are no tickets left for their dates. And I’m not talking about next week — sometimes tickets are already sold out one or even two months in advance.
So if visiting the Alhambra is part of your travel plans, my advice is simple: book your tickets at least 2 months ahead of time. And if you’re visiting during high season, even earlier.
Do Alhambra tickets really sell out that fast?
Yes — much faster than many people expect.
From the outside, it’s easy to assume that such a famous monument will always have tickets available. But the reality is quite different. The Alhambra has limited daily capacity, fixed entry times, and extremely high demand for most of the year.
Most visitors also want the complete ticket, including the Nasrid Palaces — which is the most popular option and usually the first one to sell out. The best time slots and busiest travel dates can disappear very quickly.
If you read travel forums or articles from experienced travelers, you’ll notice the same recommendation again and again: if you want to visit the Alhambra without stress, book your tickets at least 60 days in advance.
The most common mistake travelers make
Many people organize everything else first: flights, hotels, restaurants, their Andalusia itinerary… and leave the Alhambra tickets for later.
That’s usually when the problem starts.
Of course, Granada is still an incredible city even without entering the Alhambra. But for many travelers, visiting this monument is one of the main reasons for coming here. If that’s your case, tickets should be one of the first things you book — not one of the last.
I always give the same advice:
if you already know your travel dates, check Alhambra ticket availability before anything else.
Changing a restaurant reservation is easy. Rearranging an entire trip because you couldn’t get Alhambra tickets is not.
When should you book your Alhambra tickets?
My practical recommendation is:
- at least 2 months in advance;
- even earlier during spring, holidays, or summer;
- as soon as possible if your travel dates are fixed.
This isn’t an exaggeration — it’s simply the best way to avoid disappointment and have more flexibility with entry times.
Where to buy Alhambra tickets
Whenever possible, use the official ticket website.
The official booking platform is the Alhambra Patronato website. You can also find alternative options such as the Granada Card, which sometimes includes Alhambra access together with other attractions and transport.
Occasionally, you may still find:
- different ticket types;
- guided tours with remaining availability;
- Granada Card combinations;
- last-minute cancellations.
But it’s important to be realistic: relying on last-minute availability is risky. It may work — or it may not.
If the Alhambra is an essential part of your trip, planning ahead is always the smartest option.
My advice as a local guide in Granada
I say this because I genuinely see it happen all the time. Travelers carefully plan their Granada trip, contact me to organize a visit… and then comes the sentence nobody wants to hear:
“Sorry, there are no tickets left for those dates.”
And honestly, most of the time it could have been avoided with a little anticipation.
So if you’re reading this and still haven’t booked your tickets, remember this:
if you want to visit the Alhambra, reserve your tickets at least 2 months in advance.
You’ll avoid stress, have more options available, and enjoy your trip with much more peace of mind.
Granada deserves time. And the Alhambra does too.
